Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen are among the names headlining for next summer, residents’ representatives learnt recently at a meeting with The Royal Parks events team. There were around 11 complainants about noise during 2022’s concerts, which took place over three weekends for the first time.
A community impact management team was in place at
Speaker?s Corner from a week before the first show providing help and information. An external waste management plan was
in place for the surrounding streets to the park. A new barrier line at
Stanhope Place prevented egress through residential areas, directing crowds onto
Edgware Road for their onward journeys.
The highest attendance at the free events during the weeks was for the day Joe Wicks did his record
attempt fitness class. Children?s theatre shows, circus classes, live music,
Wimbledon screenings, a play area and an AGE UK tea dance all featured and
were well received.
Posters publicising ?Ask for Angela?, the safety initiative which allows people who feel threatened in bars to ask bar staff discreetly for help, were on display.
“Stop tops’ (anti-spiking lids for drinks) were available at all bars. The event sends zero waste to landfill, has a
dedicated on-site green team, sustainability champions to advise concert
attendees, 80% of traders have meat free options and 100% of energy comes from
renewable sources such as HVO.
Fewer than 20 people complained about noise.
Sally Martin, vice chairman of the HPEA, commented; “iOverall this concert season was a great success and generated vitally needed funds for The Royal Parks, ensuring they continue to offer the fantastic space that we are fortunate enough to all call our ‘back garden'”.
