We are very sorry to have to let you know that the HPEA will NOT be holding its usual pub evening at the Victoria this month. There was to be a public meeting on Tuesday 17 May at the Victory Services Club to launch the application for the new Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. As this was the same night as our usual monthly pub evening we were planning to invite members to attend this important meeting instead. However due to last minute problems with the venue at the Victory Services Club that meeting has had to be postponed and there was not enough time to rearrange our own meeting for the same night.
Please accept our apologies for this and for the short notice of the cancellation. We hope to hold our June pub evening as planned on Tuesday 21 June. More information will follow regarding a speaker etc. In the meantime would you please let any of your friends or neighbours who normally attend our meetings and who is not on email know of the cancellation.
At our next pub evening on Tuesday 15 March we will be having a speaker from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to talk to us about their vision for St. Mary’s Hospital and to update us as to the current state of their plans for future development. As this is our local hospital and something that affects the lives of all of us in this area, it should be a most interesting evening.
We will meet in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm. The talk will start at 7.00pm but do get there early to have a drink and a chat with friends beforehand, and of course to get a seat! As always please feel free to invite any friends or neighbours who may be interested in joining our association.
Here’s our Spring News Poster which you can also see on the HPEA noticeboard on Kendal Street, outside Le Pain Quotidien.

The HPEA has responded to the planning application for the re-development of 31 London Street (the former Post Office site).
You can read the response here: HPEA Planning Commitee response to the Sellar Application for the Post Office Sorting Office site.
At our first pub evening of the New Year on Tuesday 19 January we are very pleased to welcome as our speakers representatives of Sellar Paddington Ltd, the company behind the proposed new development adjacent to Paddington Station. As many of you will already be aware this is a proposal for the redevelopment of the former Royal Mail Sorting Office site fronting London Street and Praed Street, with a distinctive tall tower as its centrepiece. Consultations about the proposals are already underway and some of you may have visited the exhibition of the proposals held in Praed Street late last year. The plans include new housing, offices, shops and open space. As this project would have major implications for our area it was felt that members might wish to have more information about the proposed development and also to have the opportunity to ask questions of the developers.
We therefore hope that many of you will take advantage of this opportunity and we hope to see you at our pub evening on 19th January. As usual we will meet in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.
Please find attached an invitation and booking form for the HPEA’s annual Christmas Party to be held on Tuesday 15 December from 6.30 to 8.30pm. This year we are very grateful to Chesterton’s Estate Agents for providing the venue and we are sure it will be a most enjoyable evening. Please contact Sandra Brendlor (details attached) to book your place.
Apologies for a small error on the booking form. It should read that tickets will NOT be provided but your cashed cheque will act as your receipt.
We very much hope that you will join us to celebrate the festive season with your neighbours and friends.
At our next pub evening on Tuesday 17 November we are very pleased to welcome Andrew Alchin, one of our local residents, who has kindly agreed to give us a talk entitled ‘
A History of Paddington in Maps’ . Andrew has had a lifelong interest in maps and is a collector of antique maps and city views. He has lived in the Paddington area since the early 1970’s. In his Powerpoint presentation he will describe the development of Paddington, including the Hyde Park Estate, over the centuries,
using a wide variety of maps and diagrams as illustrations. He will demonstrate the key role that transport has played in Paddington’s history from the beginning and which continues to the present day.
As Andrew will be illustrating his talk via a TV screen in the Bar please do come early to get a good seat. We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on the corner of Strathearn Place and Sussex Place W2 from 6.30 – 8.30 pm.
