At our next pub evening on Tuesday 21 June the Hyde Park Estate Association is very pleased to be given the opportunity once again to meet members of the team behind the proposed development adjacent to Paddington Station and to give them our views. As you may be aware, following the response to their original proposals earlier this year Sellar Paddington Limited withdrew their planning application and are now planning to present revised proposals for the site.
They will be holding a public consultation and exhibition later this month (24th, 25th and 27th June) but prior to this have agreed to come along to the HPEA pub evening to seek our views. This will be your chance to ask any questions and to find out what they have done to answer the concerns previously raised following the earlier application. It is a great opportunity to meet the key people involved with the site and the development of Paddington and to make your views clear.
We hope that you will be able to join us and to take an active part in the planning process. We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.
Members may be interested to read of the new ambassador service being launched by Marble Arch London (this is the newly formed Marble Arch BID, equivalent to the Paddington BID which has been active in the Paddington area for some years).
The ambassadors will be provided by Marble Arch London and will work with the police, TfL and Westminster City Council to report environmental issues, assist with way-finding, support homeless people off the streets and manage back anti-social behaviour such as aggressive, organised begging.
You can read more about this and other Marble Arch London initiatives at their website here.
There’s a programme of events during the summer in Merchant Square which you are all cordially invited to join.
You can find out more by checking the new Merchant Square website at www.merchantsquare.co.uk or see the flyer attached.

We are very sorry to have to let you know that the HPEA will NOT be holding its usual pub evening at the Victoria this month. There was to be a public meeting on Tuesday 17 May at the Victory Services Club to launch the application for the new Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. As this was the same night as our usual monthly pub evening we were planning to invite members to attend this important meeting instead. However due to last minute problems with the venue at the Victory Services Club that meeting has had to be postponed and there was not enough time to rearrange our own meeting for the same night.
Please accept our apologies for this and for the short notice of the cancellation. We hope to hold our June pub evening as planned on Tuesday 21 June. More information will follow regarding a speaker etc. In the meantime would you please let any of your friends or neighbours who normally attend our meetings and who is not on email know of the cancellation.
Here’s our late spring poster which can be seen on our notice board on the corner of Kendal Street and Connaught Street.
At our next Pub Evening on Tuesday 19 April
Nick Johnson, our HPEA Chairman, will be bringing you up to date with the proposals for the new Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. You can also find out more on the website –www.hydeparkpaddington.org
– It is hoped that the formal application will soon be made to the council, following the next full public meeting on May 17th at the Victory Services Club.
This Pub Evening will be a chance for HPEA members to have our say about the priorities which should be set and the things which the Hyde Park Estate Association should be aiming to achieve from the new scheme. We hope that you will come along with your views and ideas as to how to make the most of this important new project.
As usual we will be meeting in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm. Nick will start to speak at 7pm but do come early to get a seat and have a drink and a chat with your friends and neighbours.
At our next pub evening on Tuesday 15 March we will be having a speaker from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to talk to us about their vision for St. Mary’s Hospital and to update us as to the current state of their plans for future development. As this is our local hospital and something that affects the lives of all of us in this area, it should be a most interesting evening.
We will meet in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm. The talk will start at 7.00pm but do get there early to have a drink and a chat with friends beforehand, and of course to get a seat! As always please feel free to invite any friends or neighbours who may be interested in joining our association.
The HPEA has responded to two recent consultations: Reducing the Harm of Shisha, and the Cycling Super Highway and Quietway, Bayswater Road to Edgware Road, and the Hyde Park Estate.

Our next pub evening on Tuesday 16 February will be devoted to issues of broader concern than those just affecting our own neighbourhood. We are very pleased to have a speaker from Medecins Sans Frontieres, Stephen Legg, to tell us about his organisation and its role in assisting in trouble spots around the world.
As many of you will know Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation which exists to save lives by providing vital medical and humanitarian aid where it is needed the most. Since its founding in 1971 MSF has cared for millions of people caught in crisis, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. Stephen will provide an introduction to MSF and touch on key topics including: Syria and the refugee crisis, medical aid under fire and MSF’s response to the Ebola epidemic.
As usual we will meet in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub, Strathearn Place W2 from 6.30 – 8.30pm. Please feel free to invite any neighbours or friends who you think would be interested in joining our association.
Here’s our Spring News Poster which you can also see on the HPEA noticeboard on Kendal Street, outside Le Pain Quotidien.
