Pub evening 12 November

For our next pub evening on WEDNESDAY 12 NOVEMBER we are very pleased to
welcome Lady Lucy French, co-chair of the charity ‘Never Such Innocence’. As
you will remember this is the charity which we supported with our Summer
Garden Party in June. To mark the centenary of the First World War,
‘Never Such Innocence’ is providing educational programmes for children
and schools, teaching children not only about the history of the War but
also of the futility of war and how conflict can be resolved by other
means. Poetry, music and theatre is being used to help children’s
understanding of these important issues. The money that the HPEA has
donated is being focussed, wherever possible, at school programmes in the
Paddington/Westminster area. It will be our great pleasure to hear from
Lady Lucy about the work that the charity is doing and
what are its plans for the future. As our pub evening is taking place so
close to the 100th anniversary of the end of the war it is particularly
appropriate that we should be discussing this subject at this time.
We are sure that you will also be interested to know that Lady Lucy is the
great-granddaughter of the first Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force
which sustained heavy losses in the first weeks of the War.

We hope you will join on us 12 November at our usual venue, The Victoria
Pub, Strathearn Place, London W2 between 6.30 – 8.30 pm. As always
please feel free to invite any friends or neighbours who you think would
be interested in joining our Association.
