Pub evening Tuesday 21 November

Our next pub evening of the autumn season will take place on Tuesday 21 November.  On this occasion we will have as our speaker Sue Price, Chairman of the Friends of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.  Many of you will know Sue and will be interested to hear what has been going on in our local park in recent months and what is being planned for the future.  The Friends of HP and KG do a great deal of work to make our park the wonderful amenity it is for our community – please give this evening your support!
We will meet as usual in the upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30 pm.  Sue will speak at 7.00 but please come early to have a drink and a chat with your neighbours beforehand.   As always there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion following her talk.  We also are happy for you to invite any neighbours who may be interested in joining our association to come along.

Pub evening Thursday 21 September **new date**

Our first pub evening of the Autumn will be held on THURSDAY 21 SEPTEMBER. Please note – this is not our usual pub evening date as it is a Thursday rather than Tuesday – so please make a note and do remember to come along.
The subject for our pub evening is also something a little bit different – a subject not of purely local interest but rather something much more global.  Our very own Westminster City Councillor JP Floru has recently visited North Korea and has written a book about his experiences there – a most timely subject.  He has very kindly agreed to tell us all about it at our September pub evening, giving us a chance to gain some insights into that mysterious country and to ask him many questions about it.
The book is called The Sun Tyrant: A Nightmare Called North Korea and describes JP’s visit to the country in the spring of 2016 along with his extensive research about the realities of life in this famously enigmatic country.
This should be a most interesting evening. We will met as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.  JP will start his talk at 7pm but do come early for a drink and a chat with neighbours and friends.

Our June pub evening – Tuesday 20 June

Our next pub evening will take place on  Tuesday 20 June.  On this occasion we will have as our speaker Andrew Scrivener, Chief Executive of European Land and Property, who will speak to us about the important developments that are being planned for Merchant Square in the Paddington Basin. He will be able to tell us about the efforts his company is making in establishing a “destination” in the Basin with various year-round and summer events and also the extent to which affordable housing is playing a role in the development of the area.
There are exciting plans afoot so please come along and enjoy this final pub evening before the summer break.
We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on the corner of Strathearn Place and Sussex Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.  And as always please feel free to invite any friends or neighbours who may be interested in joining our association.

Pub evening – Tuesday 16 May

The Hyde Park Estate Association will be holding its next pub evening on Tuesday 16 May.  The topic for the evening will be transport on the Hyde Park Estate.

Many of us who live and work in the Hyde Park Estate are aware of the
significant changes taking place to all forms of transport in the area.
We are fortunate to have long-standing local resident Mr John Walton,
Secretary of PRACT ( Paddington Residents Active Concern on Transport )
to take us through a summary of recent, planned & proposed transport
changes to: buses, trains; Paddington mainline & local TUBE stations,
Crossrail, Cycle Super-Highways & Quietways, local roads, streets &
pedestrian areas.

The purpose of this meeting is to inform members as to what is happening
now and in the future to enable your HPEA Committee to properly represent
your views and any concerns to our Westminster City Councillors, TFL & others.

Sally Martin, HPEA Transport Committee will Chair the meeting and a question and answer session at the end of John’s briefing.

We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Consultation on Hyde Park Paddington Forum

Many HPEA members are already signed up to the proposed Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. Westminster City council are now carrying out formal consultation on the establishment of the Forum and you are invited to take part. Here is the information from the Forum’s website, http://www.hydeparkpaddington.org:

“An application to designate the Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum was made to Westminster City Council on 22 December 2016. Following the application’s validation the City Council is inviting formal responses from businesses and residents. The role of the Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum will be to lead and undertake neighbourhood planning. This will give the community, both businesses and residents, a chance to influence development and change your neighbourhood.”

The consultation is open until 6pm 20 April 2017 and HPEA members are encouraged to give feedback which you can do as outlined below. The WCC website page is  http://www.westminster.gov.uk/neighbourhood-planning-resources#news

You can view or download the flyer about the consultation at this link.

If you would like to make any comments in relation to the proposed Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum, please send them to the postal/email address below by 18:00 hours on Thursday 20th April 2017.

Pub evening 17 January 2017

At our first pub evening of the New Year on  Tuesday 17 January we are delighted to have as our speaker a member of the Royal Parks policing team who works in our ‘local’  Hyde Park. PC Stephen Barnes will be giving us a short talk on ‘Policing in the Parks’ covering all those issues which are dear to our hearts – cycling, dogs, rough sleepers, etc – and of course any others which you may wish to raise with him.
As most of us make regular use of this wonderful amenity right on our doorstep, you will doubtless want to hear how the Parks Police look after it and keep it safe for our enjoyment.  So please come along armed with questions and as usual a lively discussion will follow.
We will meet in the upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.  The talk will start at 7pm but do come early to have a drink and chat with friends.  Please feel free to invite any of your neighbours who may like to hear PC Barnes and who may be interested in joining our Association.
